THANK YOU FOR WORSHIPING WITH US! MAY YOU KNOW GOD’S IMMEASUREABLE GRACE, MERCY AND BLESSINGS IN THE COMING NEW YEAR.
During the season of Advent, we prepare to celebrate the birth of God’s Son, who was given the name Jesus—a Hebrew name that means “God saves.” However, in addition to His earthly name, Holy Scripture calls Jesus by various titles that describe something about His person or work. We will examine the four titles given to Jesus in —Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace—join us as we explore how each of these titles describes something about who Jesus is and what He did for our salvation.
Midweek Week One
Wonderful Counselor
This week we consider how God rescues us from the cunning counsel of the devil and blesses us with the wonderful counsel of His Son, whose Word of truth sets us free from sin and its damning deception. Jesus is given the title Wonderful Counselor because His Word rescues us from the lies of the devil and our own self-deception and leads us into God’s wisdom, which results in our salvation.
Midweek Week Two
Mighty God
This week we are reminded of the truth that Jesus was and is Immanuel, God among us, the mighty One in whom we may trust for all things here in time until we meet Him in eternity. Jesus is more than a mere human who was a great teacher or a popular hero. He was and is God in human flesh, and only God Himself can save us from sin, death, and the devil.
Midweek Week Three
Everlasting Father
In Advent week three, we ponder why Jesus is called “Father” even though He is the eternal Son of the Father. Our Everlasting Father rules over creation and His people like a loving father and His kingdom is eternal. What great love He has for us, and what comfort this gives us, especially as we face trials and suffering in this world.
Christmas Day
Prince of Peace
We long for peace in this world but fail to obtain it through our own efforts. Peace comes only through the gift of God in our Savior, Jesus Christ, come into the flesh for us at Christmas. He alone offers us true and lasting peace. Therefore, Jesus is given the title Prince of Peace. He rules over creation and gives us peace with God through His sacrifice for us, which also results in believers being at peace with one another.
